Facts About the Band’s Music

The song Let it Die is confirmed as being about Kurt Cobain, with the ‘intravenous, intertwined’ couple being him and Courtney Love. Dave Grohl has said that the song is about feeling helpless to someone else’s demise, and is known to have a pretty poor relationship with Love, with the bad feeling stemming from arguments over Nirvana’s unreleased music.

Obviously there’s a long list of bands and songs that have influenced Dave Grohl and the rest of the band. It’s not difficult to guess many of them - Led Zeppelin, The Who and so on. But in 2006 Dave admitted to absolutely loving one song in particular that you would never expect to be his style. He even admitted he should probably see a shrink about it. What was the song? The Spice Girls’ Two Become One.

Speaking of influences, in interviews Dave has been keen to namecheck not just ‘fashionable’ Rock n Roll artists who have had an impact on him, but also acts who don’t often receive similar praise, such as ABBA, Bay City Rollers and The Knack.

You may be lucky enough to see Dave Grohl when he’s playing a light blue guitar. This is most likely his Gibson Trini Lopez (in Pelham Blue), a custom-made instrument that Dave appreciates so much he has said it truly represents the Foo Fighters’ sound.

Wasting Light was mostly recorded inside Dave Grohl’s garage. Let’s be honest though, it’s probably not your average garage, with empty paint tins rusting away on an old wooden bench..!
